Sustainability & Community Impact
Our mission to provide extraordinary travel experiences is intrinsically linked to our duty to protect the extraordinary beauty of Indonesia. We believe that luxury travel must be a force for good, contributing to the preservation of Bali’s unique environment and the prosperity of its communities. Our sustainability philosophy is guided by the Balinese principle of Tri Hita Karana—the three causes of well-being: harmony with the divine, harmony among people, and harmony with nature. This principle is woven into every aspect of our operations, from our offices to the experiences we design for you.
Our Environmental Commitments
We are dedicated to minimizing our environmental footprint and actively contributing to conservation efforts.
- Carbon Offsetting Program: We acknowledge that travel has a carbon footprint. We have partnered with Jejak.in, a certified Indonesian carbon offset provider, to meticulously calculate the emissions from all our ground transportation and office operations. We then invest in verified carbon reduction projects, such as reforestation in Kalimantan, to render our operations carbon-neutral.
- War on Plastics: We have a strict zero single-use plastic bottle policy in all our vehicles. We provide clients with complimentary reusable water bottles and ensure all our partner villas and resorts have robust water filtration systems and provide water in glass bottles.
- Marine Conservation Support: The health of Indonesia’s oceans is critical. A percentage of the revenue from every booking is donated directly to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia to support their coral reef restoration and marine protected area management programs in the Raja Ampat and Komodo regions.
- Responsible Partner Selection: A partner’s environmental commitment is a key factor in our vetting process. We exclusively work with hotels and suppliers who can demonstrate responsible waste management, water conservation, and energy efficiency programs.
Our Community Commitments
True sustainability involves empowering local people and preserving cultural heritage.
- Local Employment & Fair Wages: We are proud that over 95% of our on-the-ground team are from local Indonesian communities. We are committed to providing stable employment, above-average wages, comprehensive training, and full social security benefits, including BPJS Kesehatan (health) and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (pension).
- Supporting Local Artisans & Entrepreneurs: We design our itineraries to include ethical and respectful engagement with local culture. We facilitate visits to communities like the Tenganan Pegringsingan village, famous for its ‘gringsing’ double ikat weaving, ensuring that the artisans benefit directly and are not exploited by mass tourism. We prioritize sourcing supplies from local, family-owned businesses.
- Community Development Investment: We invest in the future of our host communities. Taipei To Bali is a proud sponsor of a language education program at a school in a rural village near Ubud, providing funding for English and Mandarin language teachers. This initiative helps create future opportunities for the younger generation in the tourism sector.

Beyond the shimmering rice terraces and the sacred silence of ancient temples, a deeper commitment resonates throughout Bali – one that ensures the island’s unparalleled beauty endures for generations. While our carbon offsetting program addresses the broader impact of travel, our dedication extends to the ground level, fostering direct positive change within Indonesia’s delicate ecosystems and vibrant communities.
Local conservation initiatives and regenerative tourism
Our environmental stewardship goes beyond calculations; it manifests in tangible action across Bali’s diverse landscapes. We actively support local initiatives focused on the preservation and restoration of critical habitats. In the island’s coastal regions, for instance, we contribute to coral reef restoration projects, partnering with marine biologists and local fishermen. These vital efforts involve planting over 1,500 new coral fragments annually in protected zones, nurturing the biodiversity that underpins Bali’s stunning underwater world and provides livelihoods for countless coastal communities. Our commitment ensures that the vibrant marine life, from iridescent fish to majestic sea turtles, continues to thrive for future generations of travelers and locals alike.
Addressing the pressing issue of waste management, particularly plastic pollution, is another cornerstone of our local environmental strategy. We invest in community-led recycling and upcycling programs, helping to establish infrastructure that diverts approximately 75% of our operational waste from landfills. This includes supporting local enterprises that transform discarded plastics into valuable products, fostering a circular economy. Furthermore, we advocate for and participate in regular beach and river clean-ups, engaging both our team and, where appropriate, our guests in these crucial efforts. Our aim is to not only minimize our own footprint but to empower local communities with the tools and knowledge to manage their waste sustainably.
Embracing the philosophy of regenerative tourism, we strive to leave destinations better than we found them. This means actively participating in projects that enhance ecological health and build resilience. From reforestation efforts in central Bali’s volcanic highlands – where we’ve helped plant over 2,000 native tree saplings in the past three years – to supporting sustainable agriculture practices that protect soil health and water quality, our engagement is holistic. We believe that true luxury travel should offer more than just an escape; it should provide an opportunity to contribute positively, ensuring that the pristine environments that draw visitors to Indonesia are not just preserved, but actively regenerated.
Empowering communities through ethical partnerships
The “harmony among people” aspect of Tri Hita Karana is at the heart of our community engagement. We are deeply committed to fostering equitable and mutually beneficial relationships with local Indonesian communities. This translates into prioritizing local employment, ensuring fair wages, and providing opportunities for skill development. Over 90% of our on-ground staff are Indonesian nationals, many of whom come from the very villages that our travelers explore. By investing in local talent, we not only deliver authentic experiences but also contribute directly to the economic prosperity and social well-being of the regions we operate in, from the bustling markets of Taipei to the serene villages of Bali.
Cultural preservation and economic empowerment for artisans are paramount. We forge direct partnerships with local craftspeople, weavers, and artists, providing them with a fair market for their exquisite creations. This ensures that traditional Balinese arts, from intricate wood carvings to vibrant batik textiles, are sustained and celebrated. Our guests have the unique opportunity to visit these workshops, learning firsthand about the heritage behind each piece and purchasing directly from the creators, thereby circumventing exploitative middlemen. This direct support helps preserve invaluable cultural practices that have been passed down through generations, offering a tangible connection to Bali’s rich artistic legacy.
Beyond commerce, we invest in community development initiatives focused on education and health. We support local schools by providing resources and scholarships, believing that access to quality education is fundamental to long-term prosperity. In collaboration with local NGOs, we also facilitate access to healthcare services in remote areas, reinforcing our commitment to the holistic well-being of the communities we touch. Through these ethical partnerships, we aim to build lasting relationships based on respect, transparency, and a shared vision for a thriving, sustainable future for all Indonesians, reflecting the spirit of Wonderful Indonesia’s dedication to its people.
Curated experiences: immersing in sustainable luxury
Our commitment to sustainability seamlessly integrates into the luxury travel experiences we meticulously craft. We believe that true luxury lies in authenticity, meaning, and the knowledge that your journey contributes positively. Imagine waking in an eco-certified villa nestled amidst organic rice paddies, where your morning coffee is brewed from locally sourced beans, and your breakfast features produce harvested just hours before from nearby farms. These aren’t just amenities; they are reflections of a conscious choice to support local economies and minimize environmental impact, all while providing an unparalleled sense of place and tranquility.
We design itineraries that offer profound cultural immersion, connecting our guests with Bali’s spiritual heart and its guardians. This might include a private cooking class using ingredients from a permaculture garden, a silent meditation session led by a local priest, or an intimate workshop with a master artisan. These experiences are not merely observational; they are participatory, allowing travelers to engage respectfully with local traditions and gain a deeper understanding of Balinese life. Our guides, all deeply rooted in their communities, provide invaluable insights, ensuring that every interaction is respectful, enriching, and leaves a lasting impression long after the journey from Taipei to Bali concludes.
Ultimately, our sustainable luxury experiences offer a pathway to travel with purpose. We meticulously vet every partner, from boutique hotels to adventure operators, ensuring they align with our stringent environmental and social criteria. This dedication means guests can relax and indulge, knowing that their entire journey is thoughtfully curated to be both extraordinarily comfortable and profoundly responsible. It’s an invitation to experience Indonesia’s breathtaking beauty and vibrant culture in a way that safeguards its future, fostering a deeper connection to the destination and leaving a positive legacy for generations to come.
